we need you!!!

so here is the deal. we like this site. we love it a lot. some of use have even been writing here for a long time. and we wan’t to see it grow and provide a unique perspective on our city, one that we think is missing on other blogs that cover the city.

but we need some help.

we need some people with a passion for the city who would be willing to write a post here once a week or so on anything atlanta related that strikes their fancy. ideally, you would also be able to come to one author meet-up a month.

it would probably help if you have blogged before but it isn’t a requirement. we can get you all geared up with how to do it.

if you are interested leave a comment on this post telling us why you would like to write here. and make sure you fill out the email in the comment section. it won’t be published anywhere but it will help me get in touch with you.

p.s. – you don’t get paid. sorry.

I am very interested in writing for the site. I’m a native Metro Atlantan (born and raised in Marietta), which seems to be rare in the city these days, so I think I could definitely bring a “vintage” perspective to the blog.

I’d like to find out some more information on it! I’ve been blogging (mostly photos, some actual writing) for quite a while now. I’m pretty active in the kind of alt-atl realm – doing things like soapbox derbies (Red Bull and local), drive-in stuff, bike stuff, going to shows, eating out. Huh, guess that’s actually kind of normal for ITP’ers.

I’ve also got a big dirt track in my yard, have been in a couple local movies and currently been working on trucks a good bit, so I’ve been stereotyped as a kind of urban redneck. Whatever that is.

Sure, what the hell– I’ll offer my assistance. I have a blog and am pretty active on Yelp, so I get around town a bit, and fancy myself a fairly proficient writer. (Although maybe I’m just good at fooling a lot of people.)

I’m not a native. Far from it. But, I’m fascinated by watching the city becoming what it’s going to be. Even more fascinating is discovering the who and what, and the pushing and pulling that determine what it’s going to be and how it’s going to get there.

Also, aside from the occasional rendezvous with Zipcar, I’m transit-dependent and it’s alternately encouraging and baffling to watch Atlanta starting to address the need for comprehensive public transportation. In any case there’s certainly no shortage of things to say about MARTA’s never-ending, no-net tightrope walk, with some of our legislators anxious to throw rocks at it the whole way.

Finally, as a frequent pedestrian, I have an opportunity to see a bounty of interesting people and places that can slip right by you if you’re driving. I think it would be fun to profile some of them here.

While I haven’t done a lot of blogging, I do have a newly minted, dearly bought Master’s in journalism, (which I managed to get at exactly the wrong time, it seems) and I love taking photos. “We need you” is the most encouraging thing I’ve heard from any media outlet around here so far. I need to write. You need writers. I’m in.

(I can provide a resume and links to clips if you need them.)
