What, This Old Thing?

You may have noticed the Great Geeks at Metblogs have given us a new dress to wear to the party.

Hopefully it doesn’t make my butt look too big.

As with any make-over, this one will come with a breaking in period where we learn how to put on mascara just like the pros do, and while we work out some kinks (like, oh say, your RSS feeds being dead?).  Kindly bear with us as we make some minor adjustments here and there, and please…look around. Stay a while. We’re happy – as always – to have you.  Most of you, anyway.

    Maigh, FTW!

Thanks for letting everyone know about the new Metblogs.

Join the party if you haven’t already.

Unfortunately, the new layout does make our ass the blog look big. At 1024 x 768 resolution, which is remarkably standard these days, the fixed width header forces a scroll bar at the bottom and hides the "Search" button in the upper right. If the header were made entirely of functional win, I’d say so be it and leave it alone. But it is really just big and wide for the sake of being big and wide. Either the geeks that be ought to find a more flexible header, or they need to enable enough browser sniffing to pull an appropriately-sized header to present based on the visitor’s resolution.

That being said, I do like the pseudo-tycoon, property deed look of the whole thing.

I despise being required to login, but at least the 10+ thing has been fixed.

Agreed, those two bits are kinda bothersome (I uh, just had to reset my password. WEAK).

Here’s an update as to what the head MB-er’s are doin’ about it, should you wish to read: http://tinyurl.com/3cyar2

So, here we are, March 25th. Yup.

    *glances around, looks over shoulder*

Yup. It’s a cool look, no question. But those things they said would be fixed any minute now still aren’t. C’mon, PTB, old coot here. I can’t read light grey on white very well. And using the browser to fool with font size does unpleasant things to the navigation bar in the footer.
