In case this morning’s commute wasn’t enough

Some information that I got in my inbox at work this morning, about 4 hours too late.

I’m putting it here a bit too late as well, but whatever.

Please be advised of a major traffic alert this afternoon due to the Get Motivated conference going on Downtown Atlanta today. Event ends at 5 pm and all roads are expected to be severely congested until at least 7 pm.

Additionally, please note the break and lunch schedule for this event so that you can alter your lunch plans as needed:

Break – 11:20am – 11:40am
Lunch – 12:40pm – 1:50pm
Break – 3:10pm – 3:25pm
Ends 5:00 pm

Be careful out there tonight. Leave early if you can.

My husband was caught in the traffic this a.m. It took him an hour to go what usually takes about 10-15 minutes. According to him (and he is a highly reliable resource) there is also a “Poultry Expo,” or as he called them, “Mother Pluckers.” He is a funny man.

yeah, this morning was nightmarish to the point of humor. (it’s because of a “motivational” seminar, which motivated many bad jokes about what the people on the roads were motivating others to do). i unwittingly took what I assume to be the worst route ever, marietta street past Phillips and the CNN center. An old man walking passed me three times.

But there were actual traffic cops doing a decent job, which I honestly don’t think I’d ever seen before.

Someone in my office comes in from Alpharetta to our downtown office — he left his house around 7:30 and rolled in at 10:20. rough.

also, the AJC article makes me think that if you’re planning on leaving early you should maybe pad your exit timing a bit. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2007/01/25/0125mettraffic.html

I bike. I love traffic jams — they’re like slaloms for me.
