Breaking the rules

I’m not sure this is Atlanta specific (and therefore shouldn’t be posted here) but I’m seeing it all over town and I’m too damn lazy to look up the rules myself so I thought I’d just bear the gaping hole in my chest where a heart should be and ask: exactly how long are we going to fly all these flags at half mast?

30 days for a deceased President. Ford died on 12-26. So two more days.

Word. I suppose I don’t remember it being so long with Reagan, but then I probably just wasn’t paying attention.

Oh, it’s for Ford? I was totally thinking it was for MLK. . . .

“half mast” should be “half staff” — unless, of course, you’re talking about ships or sailboats.

and yes i realize the irony of using the name ‘grammar police’ and not using proper capitalization.

I asked a friend the same thing yesterday. Thanks for the information. I didn’t know it was a month for presidents.

for the record i am not ‘grammar police,’ although i strongly endorse his/her decision not to use capitalization.

    viva la lowercase!

Dude, I was totally about to ask someone why I kept seeing flags at half staff all over town. I’m mad it took me a month to find out what was going on. I was like…Sept. 11th? In January?
