Farewell, Ralph

It’s so sad to be writing about the second death at the Georgia Aquarium in a little more than ten days, but Ralph the whale shark has died.

From AJC.com:

Ralph the whale shark stopped swimming early Thursday afternoon. Eight hours later, as veterinarians worked over the 22-foot-long fish, he abruptly died. Aquarium officials said they don’t know why.

I hope you enjoyed your time with us as much as we enjoyed you, Ralph. You will be missed.

Maybe the “Georgia Aquarium” should be renamed the Georgia Death Pool?”

    I’m with Paulie.

Too early to start an internet rumor about red tide?

I hate saying this, but my first thought was that some insider was beginning to off the fish.

I guess I’ve read one too many news articles about a hospital nurse with an evil streak.

I know that Gasper was ill even before he came to the aquarium, and I’m sure fish die all the time around the world. It’s just that we happen to have celebrity sharks and whales.

I’m not making this up — the AJC.com article about Ralph’s death refers to him as “the uninsured whale shark.”

Could it be that Ralph is yet another victim of our nation’s broken healthcare system? If he’d had insurance, I suspect he’d have sought treatment for his illnesses earlier.

This is terrible, but would it be fair to say that Ralph has jumped the shark? *ducking*

I’ve only been to the aquarium once so far, so I’m glad I got the chance to see both Ralph and Gasper.
