“Put the anta back in Atlanta”
I just saw the following bumper sticker on the way to work today:
“Put the anta back in Atlanta”
I gotta say, I’m a little confused.
Is it supposed to be funny?
Is it supposed to be a commentary on pronunciation?
Is it a backlash againt “The ATL”?
Is it maybe a bit racist?
Help me out, please.
My personal thought is that it is backlash against ‘ATL’. I don’t think it’s racist since a few white people have been known to say ATL.
I’m guessing that it’s the ATL thing. And I think it’s just trying to be funny. Operative word is trying. Because, in the end, it isn’t funny. Though I never really get bumper sticker humor.
Yeah, I think I ultimately agree with you, Daniel.
Trying too hard to be funny.
Best bumper sticker, IMHO: “I do whatever my Rice Krispies tell me to do.”
I thought it was due to the pronounciation, “Atlanna.”
Preferred bumpersticker of the moment: “I support faith based missile defense systems”
I don’t know what the bumper sticker is about but, we do have a city with a nice name. It seems ashamed to cut it up into an FAA Designation (ATL). Of course, we could go back to the pervious name: Terminus.
Wow Seth: Did you just move here, or were you just born kinda slow?
I’m sorry to disappoint you, SpaceyGracey, but I’ve lived in the Atlanta area since 1986 and despite a lower than expected SAT score, I was NOT born slow.
I don’t get the humor or illuminating sentiment of the bumper sticker and I wanted to see what other people thought.
Glad I could help you meet your snark quota though.
I know that they sell them at the Earl– as a minorly new atlANTAn, i thought they were some inside joke.
anyways, check it out at the Earl.
I agree with the ATL theory. The bumper sticker probably means say Atlanta instead of making it short. Funniest bumper sticker I have seen recently was on the back end of a business truck (even though I am a northerner)…”we don’t give a dam how you do it up north”
I believe for every drop of rain that falls a flower grows.I believe that somewhere in the darkest night a candle glows.
