Rushdie joining Emory’s faculty

Not in any particular department, but as Emory’s Writer-In-Residence. I was lucky enough to see him at Emory when he spoke two years ago. Of course, as “Writer-In-Residence” he only has to teach for four weeks over the next five years. Even still, the Emory community is fortunate to have him joining them and having his archival papers housed on campus.

Jeez. I sure hope he doesn’t like to drink at the EAYC, ’cause all writers love to drink heavily, right? And what if some weirdo jhadists are still following him around and stuff? Oh well… least it’s not Christopher Hitchens!

And man, is Rushdie gonna be disappointed with the state of Atlanta literati. Hope he likes rap music instead of cocktail parties full of babbling Buckhead socialites whose idea of fine literature is a cookbook from that prose-fatty, Pat Conroy.

Not to sound like a philistine, but that must also mean that Padma Lakshmi will be in town as well. Somehow I can’t picture her at at EAYC.
