things to do in atlanta when you’re (not) dead
i wrote a couple of times about the almost demise of seeger’s, one of atlanta’s two mobil travel guide five-star restaurants in atlanta. eating at seeger’s was something i always wanted to do, and when it got its second lease on life, i decided what the heck and actually went this week. my point isn’t to review seeger’s (you can read my thoughts here) but it got me thinking about other atlanta experiences or things i really want to do but haven’t yet and really ought to plan to.
here’s my top five –
1. eat at the dining room at the buckhead ritz-carlton
2. see the atlanta rollergirls play
3. go to oktoberfest in helen
4. run the peachtree
5. climb stone mountain
how about you? what’s on your “really mean to do that” list?
p.s. – if you don’t get the title of the post see here.
Stone Mountain laser show.
Lakewood Antiques Market — October is the last one.
And I always wanted to take a Segway tour of downtown. You pretty much just can’t look cool on one of those. They go by my office window pretty often. I thought they recalled all the segways, but someone is definitely still giving tours.
Interesting post. I often think about this, too. I still haven’t been to the Aquarium. Or world of coke, but I couldn’t care less. I have never been to a Falcons or Hawks game. I would like to ride the whole silver comet and the Path to stone mtn.
On a related note, the site http://www.43things.com has a local section.

You can see goals popular to Atlantans (not all Atlanta-specific, though) and also the locales popular with locals. Supposedly, anyway – I like onion rings as much as the next gal, but I don’t know that The Varsity is at the top of my Atlanta list.
p.s. The Peachtree is on my list of 43 things. See you there next year?
maybe…
Oktoberfest will happen tomorrow. I’ll be sure to have photos.
sweet….i’ll be watching flickr with rapt anticipation….
The athens to atlanta rollerblade race is one on my list:

My top picks:
1. Visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden – they usually have something interesting going on, like Niki in the Garden (mosaic art exhibit) or the upcoming Scarecrows in the Garden for Halloween.

2. Figure Drawing at the Apache Cafe on Art Mondays – every Monday night, they have live model figure drawing, an art show (where the artist usually speaks about his/her work) and open turntables for the DJs.

3. Art & Wine Sundays at the Corner Wine & Art store in Morningside: from 3 to 7pm, you can try six different kinds of wine from a given region of the world, and paint your own canvas. Cost is $15

4. See some interesting art/music/film at Eyedrum, a fantastic alternative art space:

5. Attend the Atlanta Film Festival and Out On Film – the former has been around for 30 years, and provides an opportunity to see over 150 films over nine days…Out On Film, Atlanta’s LGBT film festival and now in its 19th year, will take place November 10-16 at the Plaza Theatre. Both events are produced by IMAGE Film & Video Center.

Skip #4, it’s just a 10K. I did it once and hated it. There are plenty of other 10K’s out there, and many support good causes.
– Visit the Margaret Mitchell House
– Go to a Thrashers game
Will have to think more for the other 3… Being born and raised (and still) in this city, I’ve actually managed to get a lot of the city done. Heh.
P.S. If you want to come to the upcoming roller derby bout this Sunday against Las Vegas up at All American Skating Center in Stone Mountain – shoot me an email.
hmph – ironically i will be in las vegas. next one i am in for though, for sure.
