someone’s in the kitchen with honey, someone’s in the kitchen i know
readers of this space will not doubt know how much i love the east atlanta village (er, kirkwood – see comments here) so i usually make it point to try to check out and support new things that open over there.
with that i have now gone to honey’s kitchen on flat shoals for both lunch and dinner. honey’s kitchen is operated by the same proprietor of cantina la casita (although don’t tell anyone but his name isn’t honey) and offers breakfast and lunch. breakfast is standard southern breakfast fare, eggs, grits, short-stacks the like, with quite a bit of healthier and vegetarian options as well (i.e. i had turkey bacon.) lunch is meat and two or three with the usual suspect dishes thrown in.
i was quite impressed. my fried catfish was seasoned amazingly. not really sure what they put on it but it was great. same thing with my potatoes during breakfast. liked the fried okra and mac and cheese i got as well. it fairly reasonable, probably about 10-12 bucks after drink, tip etc.
total throwback as well. i mean there is no decoration at at all. you really could imagine yourself sitting in a diner in east atlanta 40 years ago. well until you notice all the piercings on the patrons that is :-p
