Mystery Building
Kind of in the vein of our Where Am I? category of posts, I am curious about the identity of a building I spied yesterday on the way back into Atlanta from Macon. If I had not been in traffic, I would have pulled over to get a good shot of it, but alas, you will be subjected to my description of said building.
It is located on the southbound side of Interstate 675. It is decidedly Asian-influenced, predominately red, with gold trim. The roof has multiple tall gables. It is very close to the interstate, but somewhat hidden behind trees. It is not apparent to me whether the property is residential, commercial, or possibly a religious facility. There was not a sign declaring its purpose on the interstate side.
I attempted a Google search on said building, but didn’t come up with much. I did, however, come across Terry’s Humble Guide to Atlanta, one man’s thoughts on our fair city, including it’s good and bad architecture, music, radio stations, venues, bridges, hangouts, and great drives. The site is a little out-of-date, but an interesting read, nonetheless.
So, help me out here: Can anyone identify this mystery building?
I’ve seen it too… it looks like a Pagoda or temple or somthing… curious.
Exactly. I hope someone gives us a clue!
The only thing I can think of is the Hindu Temple of Atlanta – http://www.hindutempleofatlanta.org/ but it’s off of Georgia 85 and doesn’t really have any red in it.
Well, that is interesting, but nope, it is definitely on 675 and not the same building. Also, the Hindu temple on that website has a sense of authenticity. This building almost seems cartoonish, or like a movie set. I think i am going to have to post a picture of it when I get a chance.
A picture would be helpful.
Have you tried poking around on Flickr?
I see that building every time I come up 675 and am dying to know what it is. It was under construction for a while and then slowly took the shape of this temple. One day when I have time I’m going to exit and see if I can find it to see if there’s a sign!
Anna, i am planning to do the same thing, but just don’t know when I will get down that way to do it. If you do before me, please let us know!
