Bodies at the Civic Center
Has anybody gone to see these bodies at the Civic Center? The billboards and ads in the local rags for this exhibit show the face of a stiff with part of the skin removed. I remember when this cavalcade of corpses rolled into town there was quite the hullabaloo as to whether or not people should go see them. I can’t say I really have an opinion as to whether we should make death an art and frankly I forgot about it until just recently when I saw an ad. I’d be curious to hear from someone who’s forked out $20 to see some bodies.
Yeah its worth it. You learn a lot and it hits home how alike we all are under our skin. Makes you want to take better care of yourself.
This thing is not cool. The exhibit bought the bodies from the Chinese govt who doesn’t say who they are or where they came from.
It would be one thing to put bodies in goofy poses if they had donated them to science (or art) but it’s another to do this with anynonymous bodies of people who did not consent. I admit the exhibit looks interesting and if they obtained boides legitimately I’d see it for sure.
The exhibit was very cool. Theoretically, the bodies were voluntarily donated to science, although it is hard to say for sure since the Chinese government isn’t necessarily trust worthy in questions of human rights. However, the whole show is fascinating and definitely worth seeing.
Yes, it really goofy when a conductor is waving his baton, someone is shooting a basketball, or in the thinker position. I think someone has something against people with no skin. Be sure to see the grey marble colored smoker’s lung. This exhibition shows that the human body is the ultimate machine.

I’m going on Saturday. I’ll try and post a review on the Metblog.
I’ve paid $20 to see bodies before, but typically they had skin and were gyrating in front of me.
How about the guy out front “thumbing” you in? Or they may have gotten rid of that one due to complaints. And the guy dancing with his own skeleton? Pretty cool, granted, but not respectful. But my problem is with consent. Would you be cool w/ them digging up your dead relatives and having them dunk a basketball?
They can take my body and make it play twister if they want (after salvaging any useable organs for transplant) but I can understand how someone else might not want to have that done. These bodies were unclaimed, meaning they were being held at morgues and no relatives showed up, and I’m not sure if the company putting on the exhibit approached the chinese govt or vice versa, but either way thats shady.
This exhibit is very educational and shows us first hand how our bodies function day in and day out. It also shows us first hand the results of abusing our bodies with the lung exhibit. I would recommend this exhibit to anyone! On the matter of respecting these people and whether or not they gave their consent, I don’t know the conditions in which the museum aquired the bodies but these people all died of natural causes wether it was a heart attack, disease, or abnormality. I can guarantee you that the motive behide this exhibit and the way these people were treated during their preservation process was 100 times more respectful than most living people treat each other including the poor child whose mother is so selfish that she would have her own child ripped from her womb because SHE does’nt want her child or letting an adult women who ,though handicapped, can clearly respond to her parents and smile starve to death while her husband(who had already abandoned her) keep the money and move on! What about their respect and consent? If we’re going to talk adout respect, lets start with the living!
