local music primer

one of the things i have yet to do since my relocation to Atlanta is really immerse myself in the local music scene. my experience has really been limited to going to see my buddy james’s band the redshirt freshman play in a few local venues.

that’s why i was excited to read the other day that rich, who covers local music over on the blog cable and tweed, is going to be posting a series of local “mix tapes,” playlists of mp3’s covering different genres of local music. according to rich, he will be covering rock, indie/pop, “twang”, alternative, and pop/singer-songwriter. you can read more about the project here.

rich will be posting the mix tapes starting tomorrow. check it out, i will. and maybe next time i see one of those signs advertising some band at lenny’s at the tunnel between dekalb ave and edgewood, i’ll have some idea who they are for.
