Atlanta…The Movie!

ATL

Several movies have used American city names for their titles. New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles…and of course, Chicago. Now Atlanta — or should I say ATL? — can join the club.

The movie’s official site doesn’t offer much in terms of plot information, but a quick viewing of the trailer shows Atlanta rapper Tip “T.I.” Harris and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton starring in what appears to be a Roll Bounce-esque music-driven coming of age “New American” story about four teens in a working-class Atlanta neighborhood where hip-hop music and roller skating rule, and talks about their life after high school. In other words, skating in the West End.

Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Dallas “The ATL” Austin and Will “Where’s My Wife” Smith are attached to the project as producers, and the film was penned by Antwone “Derek Luke, My Ass!” Fisher! How’s that for Black star power? Of special note is that the film was originally titled “Jellybeans” after the famous Atlanta skating rink, but producer Dallas Austin changed the film’s name to ATL after his Brand Atlanta funded city anthem debuted.

Slated for a March 2006 release, this film, along with Outkast’s Idlewild, will have moviegoers thinking every day is an opening day…for movies!

OK, that one was corny, but you know what I mean.
