Beltline Vote Today
Today, the city council votes on whether or not to create a special tax district for the beltline project. It is thought that such a district could raise nearly $22 million for the Beltline. This is the do or die, make or break, moment for the beltline. Mayor Franklin supports it wholeheartedly and my best guess is that it will pass. Beltline proponents everywhere, including (I think) most people on this blog), will celebrate.
And yet, even the Mayor and ADA say that the transit piece of the Beltline may not be able to be fully
funded — ever. It is a big “if” by their estimation. So we will get all the development and the corresponding traffic/congestion, but none of the promised transit. Now, I know being a critic of the Beltline is tantamount to treason, but passing this legislation will not be the panacea it has been marketed as. Well, for developers it will be. So, come on, get outraged at me. But I believe the very positive effects the Beltline could have will be undermined by rushed, thinly written legislation and a serious lack of planning and money for the transit.
Kristina, I accuse you of treason! How dare you shed light on the intricacies and dual-nature of legislation and policy!
If the beltline isnt approved.. then the terrorists win.
No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act . . . well, looks like you guys got me.
