Tailgating – Not Just for Sports Fans

Man ñ am I tired of fearing for my life when I get on the highway (or any Atlanta-area street, for that matter). I find myself getting closer and closer to erupting and loosing my road rage fantasies on people on the streets ñ a scary thought ñ so I thought I’d vent a little.

Here’s just one example: This weekend, I was heading to the recording studio, enjoying the lovely fall-ish weather, and listening to the Damian Marley CD when I looked into my rearview to find some moron who decided it was a good idea to be 3 inches away from my bumper. Obviously 70 miles per hour wasnít good enough for himÖyes, yes, I know ñ Iím supposed to be going at least 80, but Iím just not comfortable with that. I believe that whatever I can do for safety purposes ñ without totally interrupting the flow of traffic ñ should be done. And 10 mph can make a big difference.

Anyway, this guy had plenty of room to go around me. I was in the middle-right lane and all the other lanes were pretty open. But NO, this person just loved to be a fool and create a lovely environment for a pile-up. My method is always to slow down. I know this might not be the safest thing to do, but I do it slowly to just tell idiots like this guy: ìIím not going to speed up for you, so please get off my ass.î

I have not yet resorted to throwing things at people, and Iím not one to brandish one of those ìStay off my Assî bumper stickers, but I fear that I may one day have to do one or the other. I really wish Shelbinator would invent that golf ball-throwing machine already! So ñ whatís your method?

If I am in one of the right lanes and a car gets way too close to my bumper, despite other available lanes for passing, the driver is wack. For fun I will slow down quite a bit, and then duck so I don’t get shot.

I’m with Susie on this one. If I’m in one of the right (slower) lanes and someone is riding my ass, then I will slow down/tap my breaks. If I’m in the left (faster) lanes, I will usually move over. Slower traffic should keep to the right.

I hate it when I’m using cruise control and I pass someone, and then a minute later they are on my ass because I’m going too slow. So I’ll get over and they pass me and then they go back to the same speed they were going when I originally passed them. It drives me crazy!
