Fuck you, Joe Morgan
To Joe Morgan, ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball “analyst”, I say “FUCK YOU!”.
It’s not that I’m jealous of his former baseball prowess or current status as purveyor of insipid banter. No, I’m angry at him – livid in fact – that he thinks so little of the city of Atlanta, the Braves organization and the fans of our sports teams.
Let me explain. John Schuerholz was invited into the booth last night to discuss the 1995 World Champion Braves (it’s the 10th anniversary) and the general success of the franchise. Instead of fawning praise upon the man for a feat unequaled in professional sports, they resorted to that old saw “Why haven’t you won more titles?”.
You know what? Ask Marv Levy how he lost 4 Super Bowls. Ask the Minnesota Vikings how they accomplished the same infamous task. At least we won once and played in two other great series (1991 against the Twins and 1992 against the Blue Jays). Two of the best World Series EVER. And if Jim Leyritz didn’t hit that home run in 1996 we’d have gone back-to-back and the Yankees might not have had their dynasty. Don’t forget Andruw started that series with 2 homers at Yankee Stadium.
But Joe Morgan wants rings. Heck, his “Big Red Machine” did it so why can’t we. His “advice”, his “analysis” is some bullshit about “heart”, “desire” and “intensity”. That’s nothing more than a mealy-mouthed ad hominem attack against the laid-back style of Bobby Cox and the supposedly fairweather Atlanta fans. You think we lost because we didn’t have the right personalities or the proper motivation? Joe, kindly explain how the Yankees – the league’s highest-paid and arguably the best coached team can lose 2 out of the last 4 World Series. Not enough Joe Torre?
You know what Joe? FUCK YOU! Fuck ESPN for allowing you to trash Schuerholz, Cox, the Braves, our fans and our city. When we win 14 straight I’m sure you’ll be the first not to cheer. Asshole.
And I’m putting all future haters on notice. Atlanta is not Boston or Chicago or New York, we’re Atlanta. Yes, we’d like to have won more World Series, too, but you can’t ignore the great work Schuerholz, Cox and the Braves have done. Heck, we started all rookies at one point this season and we’re still leading the NL East. So, Fuck You, Joe Morgan. FUCK YOU!
UPDATE: I’m not calming down. If Joe thinks Atlanta is a mamby-pamby city, with wishy-washy stars, a touchy-feely coach and management that doesn’t believe in winning, he’s a first-class jerk. I’ll calm down when ESPN can get someone half-decent on their air to do Sunday night games.
Oh, and I thought Deion was justified in dumping water on Tim McCarver’s head back in the day, so now you know from whence my ire originates. Mess with my city and my Braves and I’ll hate you forever.
Yea, I think you took those comments a little too seriously and a little too personally. That’s what’s called a standard interview, and I didn’t think anything of it when I listened to it.
Thats what Joe Morgan wants Seth, fire, intensity, and, dare I say, passion!
That made me so mad also, Seth. I wanted John to answer “We haven’t won more world series because the other team has one four games in those series before we got the chance to.”
What a punk…
FANTASTIC!
Holy crap, dude, chill out.
At least you’re not mad at me anymore.
I have no problem asking the question “Why not more?” afterall what the Braves are doing is unprecedented.
As a Mets fan I can’t wait until the Braves and their fans no longer have to answer the question “Why do they keep making the playoffs (and not winning it all)?” and start having to answer the question “When are they going to make the playoffs again?”
Maybe I’m a complete fool for following the Braves so intently year-in and year-out, but I’m a fan, dammit. Red Sox fans were faithful for 87 years and their record over that span was far less stellar than ours.
Does it hurt when the Braves lose in the postseason? Damn skippy.
Does that fact make me angry and violent. Hopefully not too violent, but yes.
Do I think we can win it all this year? Yes.
If we don’t, will I call for the heads of Schuerholz and Bobby Cox? No. They get us so close, I don’t see anyone else getting us in the position to win it all so consistently. And you can’t win it all if you’re not in the playoffs.
right on, brother…
Now, I want to hear the interview. I’ll be sad if I find out Joe Morgan has entered Tim McCarver or Jim Gray territory.
Joe Morgan is a motherfucker.
