I Need A Beer

After spending an enjoyable afternoon last Saturday taking a brewery tour (read “drinking free beer”) at the Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs, North Carolina I decided that I should pimp our best local brewery Sweetwater.

Sweetwater gives tours (read “provides cheap beer”) on Mondays and Thursdays at 4:20pm. I’ve been and highly recommend it. Cheers!

Ah yes… Sweetwater. I used to go with co-workers periodically, but since I changed jobs…have not been there in a while. I know it is a “Tour” … but I still can’t remember what the brewery looks like inside… :-)

I love Sweetwater’s Porter, IPA, ESB and Festive Ale. I’m not a big 420 or Blue fan but they are still better than Bud.

And let’s not forget to pour a 40 on the curb in memory of the dear, departed Dogwood Brewery. In this alcoholic’s opinion, they made better beer than Sweetwater. Unfortunately, Georgia’s arcane alcohol distribution laws made it impossible for them to survive.

Terrapin also makes a terrific pale ale that’s highly-regarded in beer geek circles. Their brewmaster is also the brewmaster at Five Seasons.

I enjoy Terrapin very much, but being in Athens makes for a long trip from inside the perimeter to see their brewery.

I’ve only been able to buy Summer Hummer once this year. Boo.

And thanks. Now I know what to do in my unemployed state on Thursday :)

My first choice beer is always Sweetwater 420 – but the Terrapin pale ale is not bad either.
