Down Came The Rain…

…and washed the festivals out. The AJC has a pretty comprehensive writeup about Music Midtown and VIBE MusicFest which both occured June 10-12. While MM definitely had more attendance due to its reputation in the Atlanta community, VIBE had a pretty reasonable attendance for its expo events and forums, truly bringing the pages of the popular urban publication to life.

But I think we can all say the real star of this weekend was Tropical Depression Arlene. Her presence over the metro area no doubt had more people watching her than the musicians of either festival. However, the 15-20 minute cloudbursts which occured both Saturday and Sunday didn’t deter most diehard music fans (luckily for VIBE, most of their MusicFest activites were indoors).

Both festivals have already begun planning for next year. VIBE MusicFest will be back in Atlanta, although it remains to be seen whether the date, lackluster organization and low attendance numbers will make it a successful event.

I probably did; I was dog tired from Friday and only had about an hour of sleep, so I don’t think I recognized many folks that day.
