Cheese Dip
I’m here at Octane (hey – it’s snowing and I need some hot cocoa!) and I just had a conversation with the baristas about cheese dip in Atlanta. I have a long time love affair with cheese dips (bot of the queso and non-Mexican food variety) so I always am looking for places that have them. I am told that Euclid Avenue Yacht Club (an excellent place in and of itself) has some truly delicious cheese dip that I was unaware of.
Any other great cheese dips around Atlanta?
It’s not really a cheese “dip,” but the fondue at Thinking Man Tavern in Decatur is delicious. Oh, and they have cheap beer. Gooey cheese, cheap beer… what else could you want?
I looooove cheese dip too, but what I’d really like is a place where I can buy it and take it home with me besides asking for a to-go box.
Jen – you can buy a type of it at the grocery store (I know you can at the Publix on Ponce near Highland) called “Queso Cheese” Mix in some milk and jalapenos and it’s pretty good – not quite up to speed with restaurant quality, but it’s pretty quick and decent.
Lori – I’ve been hearing a ton of good things about Thinking Man Tavern lately, but I’ve never been there. Is it really as good as all the hype?
It’s a good bet when you’re in Decatur, but not anything special enough to go out of your way. But they have fondue as an appetizer, which is weirdly attractive.
I really don’t know how many times I have to reiterate: Euclid Avenue Yacht Club has the best bar food in the city. That is indisputable ;)
But seriously, it is some solid cheese dip there. My wife downs an order (with generous help from yours truly) every time we go, along with her cheese quesadilla, no jalapenos, salsa on the side only.
I always get one form or another of Hippy’s (Don’s) excellent home made (like, literally at his house) BBQ.
