Good Storm
Sometimes people are scared of storms. I was as a kid after a too-close encounter with a tornado or two in April of 1974.
But as I’ve grown older I’ve gotten to where I generally love them, and one thing I must say I’d miss about the south, and Georgia in particular, is the fact that Georgia gives good storm.
Frequently bordering on severe without all the massive property destruction, you get the drama of the trees whipping and snapping, their leaves turning their pale sides over in mute submission to the slashing rain. Right now as I type this in an office just off of Spaghetti Junction I have the pleasure of having a large window in front of me and my company’s campus borders a little postage stamp of a nature preserve. The rain is cutting sideways and I can already hear sirens on the interstate. If you read this today, the 5th of August, you might want to check the old Georgia Navigator before you hit the interstates here.
If you don’t have to, sit inside by a window and get yourself a piece of the good storm.
