One of my trusted friends lives north of me near Cartersville, GA. He owns a large track of farm land in the vicinity.

Just after one of the major storms that rolled through the North West Metro area last week, he went outside to grab a quick look at any damage to his property. While outside - for just a moment - he looked up at the sky and thought he saw a bird. The bird seemed to be getting larger and larger. When “it” hit the ground, it turned out to be a 2×4 piece of lumber. Then he saw something else and it was a mattress in the air and it hit the ground not too far from him. Very quickly, a ton of stuff began to fall from the sky on to his property. Needless to say, he took cover.

No joke, he is for real and this was serious. A few moments later, other more “personal belongings” fell from the air. It turned out that the remnants of other people’s destroyed homes started raining down on his property - all sucked up by a tornado. Just amazing!

I thought his story was really out there and then I saw this story online: Tornado Blows Photo 130 Miles

It’s just all so amazing to me. I’m really hoping the Spring and Summer weather season is not going to an image of this incident. If so, we all need to dig bunkers NOW.

So, I driving down to the airport and right at the “Grady Curve” I have 7 motorcycles pass me at - honestly - 80 to 90+ MPH. They are all weaving in and out of traffic and lanes. It’s just like a race was going on around me. I’ve encountered this phenomenon a number of times on the 75/85 corridor. Since I’ve been witness to this type of “death wish” activity so many times, I began to wonder if it’s some sort of underground extreme sport: Racing at amazing speeds down crowded interstate highways. Keep in mind, I’m not talking about the open road here. I’m talking the downtown connector.

Have any of you encountered this phenomenon? I can’t think of anything else to call it. I’m sure I’ve seen these incidents at least 10-15 times in the last year or two. Any thoughts?

While on said assignments, I’ve received updates from HQ on things going on in ATL. This one was too rich to pass up a post. Please see the following two headlines:

[Georgia] State lawmakers seek to move part of Georgia’s border one mile north into Tennessee.
Georgia wants to move the entire border northward by more than a mile along a line from just west of Lookout Mountain to near McCaysville, Ga. That appropriation (or land grab) of more than 50 square miles would transform longstanding relationships along one of America’s fuzziest stretches of border.

Chattanooga Sending Truck Load Of Water To Atlanta
The city of Chattanooga, facing a possible Georgia land grab as part of an effort to get access to the Tennessee River, is sending a truck load of bottled water to Atlanta.

The best way to settle this is to challenge any football team in Tennessee to play the Georgia Bulldogs. If we win, we get the whole river. If we lose, we give Tennessee, Stone Mountain. Let’s see ‘em move that.

This is where I am now. Help me explain this to them as I’m tired of the laughter. (Folks, I’m really tired of it)

WTF?

XO, Stevie.

It’s interesting for me to see the extraordinary number of new home subdivisions going up around the multi-county Metro Atlanta area. I’ve always wondered and asked, “where are these people going to get their water from?”. I guess that’s a question to be elevated to a higher notch this year. Not to mention the number of high rise condo’s in construction, now, in midtown / buckhead.

“[...]Sunday evening when a truck and trailer from Disney’s Animal Kingdom pulled up to the rear of the enclosure where mammals stay [...] The truck driver opened the trailer door, and everyone waited for a pair of horned heads to emerge. They came out two hours later, necks craning in all directions. The giraffes clattered into a quarantine building with a sandy-floored holding pen adjacent to it. They’ll remain in the facility for about four weeks until zoo employees let them join Abu.” The AJC Full Story is Here.

It still has meaning. Atlanta = Georgia = America.

As a journalist, I knew some who were there. Just their verbal accounts, still today, sends shivers down my spine.

I won’t be protracted here as it’s not my personal site but, we Atlantan’s, certainly have something to say on this extraordinary day.

There is a convenience store I go to 3-4 times a week where the manager is a very nice lady who’s husband is in Iraq. I came in to buy gas there last week and I saw a glass container asking for donation for this same lady. Her husband was critically wounded in battle. His comrades and friends, reportedly, dead. It then became even more personal to me - this life, this war, this country.

Do you have any personal feelings about this date - 9/11 - you’re willing to share as Atlanta citizens? Perhaps you have a personal connection you want to talk about. Maybe, as Americans, you just want to talk. As Atlanta Metro citizens you might share a story that speaks about some aspect of 9/11 - religion, society, politics, personal knowledge or experiences. I’d love to hear it. This city has a wealth of cultural, religious and political diversity. Talk to me.

G-d Bless America - please - we need a good blessing right now.
