Ok…I know I haven’t posted in over a week. Damn good excuse though. The trip to the North Georgia mountains was cancelled. We had to help some family members who lost just about everything of any material value in the hurricane(s). Not a lot to say about the goings on in Atlanta right now. But anyone considering moving here…please know that we southerners….read Atlantans…..have always got a friend’s back. There were more people from the metro area helping out down there than from anywhere else. Now a cynic might say that is because of the proximity of the two states. But I think otherwise. Georgians really came through in a pinch. There are people down there who lost it all, including loved ones. There are several places you can donate items of interest to those to us who are going down to offer aid. Any church you see on the side of the road will take your donations, they always know the appropriate hands to put it in. Also, any fire house or police dept. should be able to direct you. Of course you always have the Red Cross drop off sites. Atlanta has really shown their heart…….GO ATL!!!…didn’t I say I would never use that term again? Oh, no that was hotlanta….sorry.

Ok…so the triathlon went swimmingly! The husband finished in 2 hours exactly. Not bad for his very first. However, spending that much time In Peachtree City, only hardened my resolve to move there one day. I mean, who wouldn’t want to wield the power of a golf cart much in the same way one wields the power of a light saber? Some of these people are just nasty! Last time I checked, the pathways that aren’t designated specifically for the carts…..actually allow humans to traverse them! My 5 year old daughter almost lost an arm due to a very patriotic golf cart. Yeah….that’s good times. I really do love PTC. It reminds me of my beloved Hilton Head Island. But there you only have to worry about rogue golf balls…not the carts!
This weekend we are taking the rug rats to north Georgia. For those of you not in the know, all points north in our lovely state have about a bagillion things to offer in the fall. We are headed to Hiawassee. I think this is the order….Jasper, Elijay, East Elijay, Blairville, Blue Ridge, Young Harris, and Hiawassee. Don’t quote me exactly, but I’m pretty sure that is the order of the towns. We always take 75 north to 575 north….YOU NEVER HAVE TO TURN once on 575! Its great, you cannot get lost! There are so many wonderful antique stores….there is an awsome one in Helen..oh yeah, I forgot that one. But everyone knows Helen. Not only is it the most annoying northern town (in my opinion ), but it is also the most frequently visited. But I digress…..Hiawassee is the point of interest today. And why you ask? Because when we have a hankerin’ for authentic Italian food, thats where we head. Actually the resaraunt I am so lovingly speaking of is in Young Harris…but the two towns are only 5 minutes apart. Enricho’s is a marvelous and meticulous example of true Northern Italian cuisine. Though they also prepare all regional specialties. Enricho’s is one of those dining experiences that render you speachless. You could be in the throws of the most intellectually stimulating conversations of your life, but the second you put that heavenly bite in your mouth…..words simply fail you. There is only one slight pitfall. Young Harris is a dry city. But they allow you to bring your own libations…..so do. You just can’t properly enjoy chicken marsala or veal parmasan without a good red wine. And for breakfast you ask?……go to the Country Kitchen. Its actually in North carolina, but just barely. I forget what road it is on. You take a left off 515(which is what 575 becomes) somewhere in Hiawassee. Tell you what….give me a call if you want to go. I’ll just let you follow me!
For those who don’t wish to trek all the way up to north georgia….Paces Academy will be having their Fall Festival very soon. Paces is a wonderful private school on Paces Ferry Rd. Just down the road from The Guvna! They always have great activities for the kiddies! Hands down, the best private school your money can buy….but we are still on the wait list….perhaps my shameless plug will move us up the list a touch? Probably not.

Ok….goths across the world….calm yourselves down already! I recieved my very first hate email. Something you all should know about me, I don’t piss off very easily. And at times I suppose I expect others to be the same. But alas, it is not to be. Let me clarify….I DO NOT HATE GOTHS!!!!! But my children had an unfortunate experience with one of their favorite babysitters, who showed up one day in her goth getup. Not good times. Needless to say, the husband and I did not end up going out that night. But Jenn…honey, you were unduely nasty with regard to my children. They can’t help it if they are perfect…so pipe down sweetie. And for your edification dear one…..the best babysitters I ever had were a flaming gay man and his lesbian bestfriend/roommate. Aside from my husband, there has never been ANYONE I have trusted more with my children.

And I just got a call from my bestfriend. Our favorite bar of all time, Fado’s, is having a sale of sorts on their beer on Saturday night before the good times really get started. Sometimes they do this just to get you in and drunk before they start insisting on a cover charge. But go…the patio is nice this time of year. Yes, its a small bar. But they make a superb Grey Goose martini!

Hello one and all! I’m just going to jump in here and speak to one of the dirty truths of parenthood. Babysitters are a dying breed and if you find a good one….pay him/her in stock options if you have to! It seems in Atlanta, and the outlying burbs, that a decent, non goth sitter no longer exists. I recently visited a website devoted entirely to finding that rare breed. 4sitters.com. I emailed the contact person and said” I just want Mrs. Doubtfire”. My family hasn’t been an option for us in quite a while. It has become a divine mission from God to find that perfect someone. We have to make an appt. about a year in advance to get family babysitting privileges. So as soon as I find a nanny service who offers a nice man in old lady drag….I’ll let ya know!
There are two things of interest going on this weekend. Way up 85 north is a glorious place called Chateau Elan. It is a resort/winery/equestrian park/golf heaven/….did I mention winery? This weekend is their annual wine tasting extravaganza!! I went last year and got shnookered for $25! I love wine….and drinking all I want for $25…well, that just does things to a girl. So go…drink and be merry!
I however, will sadly not be joining you. No, I have wake up at an ungodly hour and drive down to Peachtree City…the complete opposite direction of my Chateau. My dear, sweet husband is running his very first triathlon. He has been training very hard and he is actually very good at it. I just have to overlook the fact that he looks like a sausage casing in that getup he has to wear. Speaking of PTC (peachtree city)…..if you have plans to move there…..bring your patience. Maybe pack an extra bag of it. The traffic can get pretty heavy. And I’m not talking about the cars. Its the GOLF CARTS you have to watch out for! 14 year olds in need of a good spankin’ driving daddy’s golf cart…nuff’ said.
If anyone is looking for a marvelous, heart attack inducing dining experience, please go to Mary Macs in Atlanta. It is just off Piedmont Ave and the food is so magnificent…you don’t even hear your arteries closing up on you. It really is wonderful. As soon as that non-goth babysitter graces our lives, we plan to go back. Nice me and honey night on the town……eating at Mary Macs and checking into The Georgian Terrace Hotel. One of the most beautiful hotels Atlanta has to offer! Until tomorrow…..after the triathlon. (which by the way was the 2nd interesting thing happening:)
