What kind of a-hole puts up a siding/copper/bling condo bldg. on Ponce?
Maybe the better question is: what kind of a-hole lets him?
Don’t we have any sort of architectural covenants in this town? Heinous.

Yikes. Wait until it corrodes to a lovely cuprous oxide green. Where on Ponce is this?
The building’s right by the corner of Ponce and Briarcliff/Moreland, on the north side of Ponce. I’m willing to give the building the benefit of the doubt, but it has a short leash.
I would like to think that this will look better when it’s finished…
…but I have my reservations.
I would file this one under, “Huh.”
I like seeing new architecture represented in the city - Atlanta’s archtecture has been really conservative for a long time. Things are improving with interesting new commercial buildings like Symphony Tower and the Georgia Aquarium, but the introduction of new architecture in residential buildings has been slow.
I don’t like the copper siding on this new structure, but I’m excited about seeing something new and different in my neighborhood (I live two blocks away). It beats the retro theme-park-ish design of Atlantic Station and the exact craftsman copies in ViHi.
Personally, I think it’s pretty hideous (and I like a fair amount of modern architecture), but it really may age well. Imagine it, as George says, with a green patina and a leftover “House of the Fuuuuture!” vibe in a decade and it might be eclectic enough for Ponce.
As George P. Burdell suggests, this building will look entirely different when it ages, and may very well grow into something attractive. A lot of people find the De Young in San Francisco to be an eye sore, but it seems to be going for a corroded copper look. I’d hold off judgement for a few years’ time.
