Silver Comet
Two words: Silver Comet
I work within a mile of the Smyrna trailhead. I try to get out there every day. Nope, not the most challenging ride in the metro area. Far from it. But it’s darn near a natural resource for me now.
(fyi… camera is from my phone strapped to the handlebar… much safer than a real point-and-shoot!)
I have never once set foot or wheel on the Silver Comet trail. It comes from a lazy desire to not have to put a bike in or on a car and drive to a destination. Is it a real, honest-to-god trail that’s set apart from roads, or is it one of those sidewalks that goes along the road with different colored paint? How long is the entire path?
It’s over 61 miles long (runs from Smyrna to GA/Alabama line). See more info here. Some parts of it do go along roadways but it is obscured in a lot of places and even has bridges in certain areas. I think you’d enjoy it.
My linking didn’t work so well. Too little sleep I guess. It’s http://www.silvercometga.com if you’d like to check it out.
One of the first people I met in Atlanta told me about the Silver Comet trail. I said, “cool, maybe this place isn’t as bad as I thought. How do I get there?” Her response was “Take the 75 to the…” but I didn’t hear the rest. Just thought to myself: “yup, I’ve moved to a shithole.”
Nothing could be worse than having to put your bike on a car for forty minutes in order to ride it!
