I wish that I had known that people here have commitment issues. I am not speaking of romantic relationships, but just general flakiness. I have loved Atlanta since being here starting in 2001. But, I have never been in a city that is more afraid of making concrete plans than this one. It is like playing Hot Potato. "Don't end up with the set plans when the music stops, or you are stuck with a semi-interesting evening at this restaurant instead of that one."

Really, though, Atlanta has great music flowing through it at all times. I recently went to Dallas, and don't get me wrong Texans, but the minute I got back to Atlanta, I saw the pride people feel in the aesthetic of this city comparatively. It is nice to live in a good-looking place that believes in recycling.

I wish I hadn't been so scared to live ITP. It took me 3 years to get up the nerve to leave the suburbs and now I love city life!

Oh, there's SO much to do and see here! My parents have been visiting twice a year (for at least a week at a time) for the last 6 years and we still find new places to go. I even created maps to keep track and to share:

I wish I'd been told in 1997 that I could afford to buy instead of rent. I also wish I'd known about Fat Matt's bbq sooner.

My experience has been that those who complain about nothing to do are often those who grew up here or who have lived here for a long time. Both of these categories include me, of course. I think what happens is that we take all the stuff to do for granted, and get settled in routines, and forget how much is really going on.

But as to Maigh's point, I obviously can't speak to what I wasn't told. Among the things I have found out the hard way, though - never try to go to and then leave Lenox Mall on a Friday afternoon. When that little voice in your head says, "It can't be THAT bad, right?" tell yourself, "YES, it will be worse."

Great question. I can't help (lived here all of my life)..but I suggest you take her to Sublime Doughnuts on 10th instead of KK..or after KK.

I know alot of ppl complain that there's nothing to do in Atlanta. I'm sure you can show her how to figure that out. There's LOTS to do here. You just have to look!
