@grennis – you will see that I actually linked to the exact same story you did in my post. Maria Saporta is a fantastic reporter who "broke" the story before anyone, and I think it’s clear I wasn’t trying to claim any sort of credit for that.

There was certainly an amount of miscommunication and misunderstanding by numerous parties regarding this story, including myself. The metblog is not an investigative organization, and isn’t trying to be – we got an early word on a story we thought the readers would be interested in, and were told we’d get a post up a little before everyone else. Obviously that didn’t happen, but hey, this is a culture blog and not the AJC.

Thank god for that, b/c that shit is too much work, and I don’t get paid for this.

Intriguing. I’m really curious to see what an Atlantan mayoral race looks like. Are we going to see a lot of fear-mongering, promises of rescue and damage control, or a campaign of hope and progress? It’s sort of crazy that being the victim of burglary can be a point in favor in being mayor, but I’ll admit that I find that experience somehow fortifying.

@maxigrrrl AJC blew their wad and went live before they were supposed to. ;) Ben also had person to person confirmation of the news, not just a hint in an email which is pretty great in my book.

@grennis – ABC had no confirmation when they posted a week ago, it was a rumor/guess. Hell, the press conference doesn’t even happen until 11am today so I think ole Ben here has done a great job of accurately stating information and not just typing up hunches or guesses like ABC did.

Absolutely correct – what I was told was an exclusive very much NOT an exclusive. You can imagine how happy I was to open the AJC this morning and see that article, knowing what I wrote here last night set to publish this morning. Reporting sucks, I’m glad I’m not an actual journalist.

Sorry, not an exclusive. The AJC went live with the story a little after 5 am this morning online. The story is in the print edition too. Sounds like Borders gave them an interview yesterday and I got an e-mail from her campaign around 2:30 am alluding to the big secret. I like your analysis much better though.
