This is really unbelieveable. I walk right past the Standard and the BP on the corner on my way to and from work, every day, often in the dark. I have no intention of changing my routine, but it's really distressing news. Let's hope this spurs the city to action.

I am trying not to be paranoid, but this gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I *just* moved ITP from the boonies to be closer to work, over to Kirkwood. I expect break ins, thefts and petty stuff, but to have someone *killed* after giving someone everything they demanded really frightens me.

The rally should be at 7 a.m. at The Standard. I'm going to try to make it then.

This news is heartwrenching and terrifying, and such a disgusting waste. And it happened a block down the street from where another man was shot and killed a few months ago while he was also trying to just do his job (the delivery man at the BP). Frankly, a crap economy is not an excuse for a tidal wave of such VIOLENT crime, and I think everyone who is paying attention is feeling a little unsettled at best. It's disgusting the lack of regard these boys had, shooting him four times after they got what they wanted.

This news has riled up the Buzz - they plan on protesting cuts in police protection and public safety. Details are still being worked out but it looks like they want to meet at the Standard tomorrow morning (http://www.eavbuzz.net/forum/index.php?topic=18209.0)

I've said it before - be vigilant and watch out for each other.
