i totally agree. i would much rather have staff than the panda cam, but i do not necessarily agree that the zoo has looked at everything. i also don't know how much panda cam costs, but i am sure the zoo could get creative and find some money.

also, as a marketer, i have to disagree with you. the panda cam stokes interest in getting people to the zoo to see the panda. it's similar to a band giving music away for free to get people to their live shows.

and yah, there is lots of cuteness on the net, but not our own panda cub.

sigh.

i just wish we could have ti all.

I don’t mean to be a Grinch, but as an employee of another Atlanta non-profit I’d rather see the Panda Cam go than a staff member (which is where cuts usually fall for organizations already working close to the bone). Given the current economy the Zoo is likely to see less revenue from visitors and less income from endowments and investments; it’s never an easy decision to make cuts, but I’m sure they looked at all of the options and made the one that made the most sense for their organization. Also, from the standpoint of visitor revenue the Panda Cam is giving away the goods for free, seeing as how Pandizzle will have his public debut in the near future. We could all show our support better by making an effort to go see the little guy when he’s ready to come out and play, or by making a small gift to the Zoo for the panda family’s care. From the website and AJC article it looks like there will still be good footage available from past Panda Cam broadcasts, plus updates as further cuteness breaks forth. In the meantime, if you must have a cuteness stress-break the internet is loaded with delights (might I recommend the understandably much hyped Shiba Inu puppy cam at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/shiba-inu-puppy-cam).

Just my 2 cents, feel free to disagree- I am curious to know where people fall on this issue.
