I'll fill in on the self-righteous preaching front. I haven't driven a car to work in several years. Usually I bike, but lately I've been walking (6 miles a day -- you might have seen me walking down Decatur reading a book).

One of the neat things about walking is that you get to see (if you're not reading) all the bike commuters. All four of them (this was the actual number that passed me this morning, including one who almost got run over). And you can count all the people alone in two-ton SUVs with coffee in one hand and cellphone in the other. Or you could, if they made numbers that big.

Anyway, this experience doesn't give me a lot of hope, personally fulfilling as though is. More power to ya if you choose to participate, but until I see something besides massive traffic jams every morning, I'm not going to break out the bubbly.
