Ha! Forgot you were a Roswellian at one time, too. I think “David Yow’s Vomit” sounds like a great band name. Glad to hear he still has it. I’ll tell ya one thing, I saw him with Jes. Liz. a few times in the early 90s, and there was no way i thought he was going to make it to the mid 2000s, that’s for sure.

Boy, that “early 90s” made me sound old.

Um, I’m guessing that would have been David Yow’s vomit in the sink judging by his condition that night. But then again, he’s a champion.

When I come to whirlyball shows the family thinks I’m finally settling down for a life of quiet entertainment in the burbs. Oh the irony!

Agreed that if you live near the square it might be pretty nice, if you weren’t looking for a ton of nightlife. Totally agree that you do the best you can. Esp. once you have a family!

I guess I’m just lucky that downtown is walkable for me and my neighbors. Next time you’re up this way check out all the new condos etc. within walking distance of the squares (both of them). Agreed, there are a lot of ‘far flung’ homes/subdivision, but sometimes you just do the best you can.

Aw, Dovetail, get a sense of humor. In all seriousness, Roswell is not that bad, it is a decent place to raise a family, and I had good schools growing up there. But to be able to see decent bands in my hometown? Unheard of. You had to defy parents by going inside the perimeter to see a good band. The whole town square area is nice and has family-friendly events and that sort of thing. It’s like you live in your little subdivision and then have to drive your SUV to see the stuff on the square. It’s not like it’s a walkable town or a quaint village with downhome types in it. Those are few and far-between.

As far as Pitchfork reader types finding anything redeeming about Roswell? There wouldn’t be anything in their eyes other than the occasional Whirlyball. Obviously, Roswell kids have it too easy these days, with their chance at decent bands. In my day, I had to drive 20 miles to see a good band. :-)

I saw the Melvins at Whirlyball last year, and it was pretty much the most surreal thing ever…there were signs advertising corporate teambuilding opportunities. Also, there was vomit in the sink.

wow annie… that was pretty harsh. been to the roswell square lately? ragamuffin music? live music at swallow at the hollow/pastis? downtown art walks? annual pro cycling criterim? i’m glad you’re happy where you’re living but sheesh… it’s not THAT bad…
