72 In January

Good people, it is 72 degrees outside and today is January 7th. I say this, yes, I say this as a Yankee in your fair city, but I say it all the same: What the hell? We are not hardly past the Winter Solstice and I’ve got long-tailed birds outside my window dancing and flirting like French courtesans.

I like winter. I like it a lot. I like having a few months when my house isn’t an outpost in a jungle of bugs. Please, please don’t let this go on so long that the bugs unpack their things. Not yet.

Yet… yet it is so nice outside that I feel like I should get one good gulp of spring in before it’s gone again. I should hit the zoo or eat outside or do something outdoors to take advantage of this. But what?

You tell me, Atlanta. It’s taking me all my rational thought just to remind myself not to put on a sweater on account of it is January.

    Will,

It’s going to be 70 here in NYC tomorrow, so don’t be too harsh on Atlanta for the warm weather. Instead, focus your angst on global warming… maybe a nice rant against cars and cows would do the trick.

Oh man, are you kidding? This is the greatest! Last week’s 4 degree windchill did not sit well with me. Go to the park, man, sit on the porch, climb the Corey Tower, ride a bike for an errand you’d normally drive. (see, Daniel? I got weather AND cars in there)

I think winters are generally like this in Atlanta – cold snap, warm spell. No sustained extremes. Makes you appreciate the weather you prefer. Enjoy it while you can – it’s not going to be like this for long.

Long range models show cold starting this weekend–and decent chances of wintry precipitation.

I was just there last week and it was COLD.. figures I’d come back here to the frozen UK and miss a nice warm bit in Atown. Damn.
