Used in Atlanta

Since I got here, three years ago, I’ve been unable to find a place that quite scratches my used-CD/DVD itch. I’ve found places to buy and sell used books, no problem, but not so much with the shiny discs. Now, for the first time, I’ve got a huge haul of used CDs and DVDs that I’d like to find a home for (and, more importantly, get some cash back on), but aside from GameStops (which are no help to me in this area, as they only offer trade credit) I have no local leads.

So I put it to you, People Who Know Atlanta Better Than I: Where do I go to buy and sell my used DVDs? In fact, where are your favorite places to buy or sell used whatevers? What’s inside the Perimeter? What’s orbiting out beyond the edge?

Share what you know. Hook a brother up.

Criminal Records and Wax n Fax in Little 5 Points sell used CDs so I assume they buy as well.

Decatur CD (in Decatur) buys and sells used CDs.

Ella Guru in the Toco Hill Shopping Center (near Publix) buys and sells CDs.

You may also want to contact Wuxtry which is near Emory.

As for DVDs I have no idea since I really don’t buy any.

Don’t forget to delete all of your digital copies and ripped tracks when you sell your CD’s.

I used to always go to the CD Warehouse stores around town, the best is on Roswell Rd. The one in Duluth on Pleasant Hill is pretty big as well.

http://www.Secondspin.com buys CDs, DVDs & Video games for cash. Prices are pretty good compared to most places.

Book Nook does used CDs and DVDs and is where I usually go to buy used discs. Haven’t taken any there so I don’t know what they offer though.

I used to go to Full Moon Records in Candler Park (close to Flying Biscuit) or Wuxtry in Decatur

Seconded on CD Warehouse/Disc Go Round/whatever they’re called this week. That’s where I normally go to fish for used Criterion DVDs.

Is there a half priced books around here? I would give them a shot… and on the other hand, not that it will realized you a positive cash flow, but maybe donate them to your local library. You can write the donation off on your taxes if you know what the fair market value is.

FYI, there is not a Half Priced book location in Atlanta, I would try CD Warehouse, maybe I can clean out my “media closet” aka a couple hundred/thousand CD’s.

speaking of used stuff: is there anywhere that sells used bikes? i’ve had a lot of trouble locating somewhere to buy a cheap, used beater. any suggestions?

Check out “Play it Again Sports” for used bikes, or if you are ever on the silver comet trail, there are a few bike shops right on the trail that have used bikes.

Check out freecycle.org (they have an Atlanta yahoo group), or swaptree.com.

If “sell it off” is a higher priority than “a local used CD store” try Amazon.com.

I’ve had decent success selling my old books and CDs there. You set your price, Amazon gives you a shipping credit and takes a percentage of the sale price. In most cases you earn your asking price.

    The downsides:

    1. Until the item sells, it’s hanging around your house/apartment/trailer.

    2. You have to go to the post office (or have a postage calculation scale) to send the stuff.
