BET Hip Hop Awards
The BET Hip Hop Awards are being held this Saturday at the Civic Center. I am out of town, which is kind of unfortunate, because I’m guessing there will be lots of great people-watching and famous peeps sightings to be had over the weekend.
Awards start at 4pm and end about 8 pm, but there will be street closings in the area throughout the day. Performers include Nelly, TI, Kanye West, and others. Notably missing in my mind? Female performers. (See the performers list here.)
sucks but true: hip-hop is men’s music. that certainly explains a lot about its subject matter (money, and the things money can buy: cars clothes and hoes).
those performers are certainly the It Boys of the year with the possible exception of nelly. makes sense that they’d be performing. there aren’t any female rappers out there with either a recent enough hit or big enough star power to be at this year’s awards.
It’s not “men’s music”, it’s just “male dominated” like MOST businesses in this country.
