wipe out!

i actually made it to the soap box derby i wrote about at the starlight six drive-in and it was as good as advertised.

seriously, other than one or two mediocre bands and a much later than advertised start the thing was incredbly well organized. good food from a bunch of local vendors, strong turn-out and a great vibe all made it something else. there were even some pretty interesting ‘nurses’ to tend to fallen drivers.

and the real stars, the cars, were out of this world. everything from a pb&j sandwich to a couch with the simpsons family went down that hill. i also saw the most incredible wipe-out ever courtesy of a flying eight year old boy who despite flipping and landing on his head escaped unhurt.

too bad one of my cameras is busted and the other is touring the world on a united air lines 747. luckily though, mighty-j got some great shots which you can see in his flickr set

congrats to everyone involved. can’t wait for next years. i may even enter a blogger car to go down the hill that looks like a macbook.

anyone else make it? what did you think?

I was one of the venders in the craft fair section — and got to see some of the races (missed the one where the kid did the roll). I personally had a pretty good time — just wished the venders would have been all together (we were spread out everywhere, and where we could see (the action) and be seen (by the people).

All in all it was pretty awesome.

Unfortunately I missed it, but got a re-cap later that night from some friends. Their friends’ car was named “The Cleveland Steamer.” I plan to be there next year.
