I’m somewhat in disbelief that the AG has jumped in on this one; I think he might have jumped the shark here.

And our Attorney General is black, what the hell is going on here, something is fishy, let this damn kid out of jail, this is ridiculous.

This whole case makes my blood boil. If that boy should be in jail, so should I, and just about half the people I know. It is ridiculous, a waste of taxpayer money, a waste of time, and a waste of a kid’s promising life.

Not to mention I hate cases that make my home state look like it’s full of idiots. This one definitely applies.

I think that Baker is making the correct decision to to appeal this case. He is the Attorney General, and this is an unprecedented ruling, so there needs to be some clarity provided by a higher court. Baker doesn’t create the laws, but he does have a responsibility to make sure that they have integrity and are clearly understood to whatever extent that is possible.

The real culprit here here is the legislative branch. First, for not making the changes to the law retroactive, two for having the audacity to handcuff the ability of a judge to make a decision to begin with, and three for making sex between a fifteen year old and a seventeen year old a misdemeanor to begin with. Even the “Romeo and Juliet” exception is generally preposterous, especially given teenage girls and their propensity to lie about their age.

Let me correct that second sentence:

“He is the Attorney General, and according to him this is an unprecedented ruling, if that is so, there needs to be some clarity provided by a higher court.

it just seems to me there has to be a better way to handle this — to let the kid out of jail without compromising the legal system.

unless of course there is something we don’t know, but it seems that would have been aired by now.

    shakes head in wonder
