it only gets better from here….

i have been posting about atlanta-based rockers, the beggar’s guild for some time now (see here and here) and i went to catch them again on thursday at vinyl in midtown. vinyl is starting a new series on thursday nights of roots rock and americana music and the beggar’s guild were playing the first show in the series.

they were, of course, awesome. the music is simple, no-frills americana rock that never fails to get my toe tapping, my head bobbing and gets me singing along. all of the guys are talented musicians and they play very well together. you can get their ep on their myspace page and for five bucks i highly recommend it, but to really experience these guys you have to see them live.

guitarist will mcneill really stood out on thursday night, playing his solos with extra flair and really getting the crowd that was there energized.

we were also treated to two new songs, one tentatively called ‘you don’t know how (to leave me)’ and another that i’m not sure has a title yet, but tj edmond played solo for an encore (which by the way was the band’s first ever encore i am told.) one of the great things about seeing these guys is that almost every show they unveil a song they have NEVER played before live.

anyway, it was a great show, and i also heard that local music scene mainstay chris unck was there recording so with any luck we might get a live version of the show available soon.

i swapped some emails with frontman tj edmond after the show and he told me how great it was to actually see people in the audience singing along with their songs, and i noticed it too, which i haven’t really seen at their shows before.

these guys are good and they are going to develop a following. you should be part of it.

i’m going to attach a link to one of their tunes below so you can check it out.
