Zoo Atlanta – To Stay Put.

To update a previous post by Maigh, et al, Zoo Atlanta is apparently staying put and not moving away from the Grant Park area. $200,000,000.00 later, that is. Personally, I’m very glad. I’d be happy to donate to the Zoo project and would love to see our zoo be the best in the nation.

“The zoo considered relocating to a larger plot at an old fairgrounds in south Atlanta. President and C-E-O Dennis Kelly said today that it instead will renovate its 40-acre site in Grant Park near downtown” | Story |.

Bummer. I would have liked to have seen them move. It would have been a nice boon for the Lakewood area and the Southside in general. Oh well.

My only concern with Atlanta Zoo is it’s ability to become the world class zoo Atlanta deserves (Like the Georgia Aquarium)in the existing space. Aside from that it is very conveniently located on Boulevard @GP.

I don’t think this will slow down the development of the Lakewood site one bit. We are talking a huge amount of acreage a few short miles from the central business district. Lakewood will get the development it is just a matter of what quality of development.
