Inquiring Minds
Over Scrabble with the girls the other night a few old Atlanta rumors/topics surfaced and the girls looked to me for answers. Why they looked to me I have no idea, because I’m clearly a very grouchy old hermit dumbass hybrid but whatevs, now I’m looking to you.
Riddle me this:
~ Wasn’t the Masquerade supposed to move to Underground Atlanta like…17 years ago?
~ What’s with the rumor they’re trying to move all the midtown clubs and bars there, too?
~ What’s going to happen to the old World-O-Coke once the new one us up in CP?
I don’t know about the Masq moving there — but I have heard they sold that property.
As for why everyone was moving there — the city of Atlanta owns Underground and when they made the new law about bars closing early — the exempted underground — so many of the owners of bars that were closing because of the new law moved there — most have not had the success they hoped for in that location.
The old World of Coke sold to the state for $1.1 million and will close it’s doors on April 7, per the AJC.
Most of these rumors have been around for ages – seems they’re just being churned back up.
I wonder what the state plans to do with their 1.1m investment…
I believe the world of coke is slated to become a derelict shell. There are a number of homeless people waiting to move in…
I don’t know about the Masquerade moving to Underground but I DO know that the owners opened a club (or three?) there during the nightclub rebirth. One was Future – which I don’t think is around now.
Man, I could really go for some Lilt right about now.
The city of Atlanta is always trying to revitalize downtown, usually by pouring money into it and not much else, like asking themselves why no one who lives here goes downtown. By making every popular bar and club close early – unless they want to be in Underground Atlanta – the idea is kinda like “stick everything there and they will come”.
