where am i? – favorite houses edition
so where am i?
relatively easy one, i think. i love this house. probably one of my favorite in the city. and the basketball goal in front of this grand old home seals it for me.

In Inman Park down Euclid on Edgewood.
yes indeed. at the corner of euclid and elizabeth. the ing georgia marathon is going to run right by this too…
The old Candler mansion. My parents looked at buying it in the late 1970s. I wish they had… :-(
Every now and then I see one of those little plastic cars with the yellow rooftop in front of that joint and I chuckle at the stark contrast of this beautiful house’s sophistication and thought of this kid leaving his or her toy in the front yard.
Ahhh nothing beats life…
…for the living anyway.
indeed, rashid. it’s one of the things i love about the house….so human.
“those little plastic cars with the yellow rooftop” – Rashid, that is what i refer to as a “white trash” car. And yes, my kids own one. It is out in the backyard collecting rainwater as we speak.
Great house, James.
thanks, annie. i am actually inspired to do a little research on this house now and see if i can find anything interesting about it.
if anyone knows the current owners would you ask them to get hold of me?
If you’re going to google around for more information, the name of this house is Callan Castle. And, the secret formula for Coke was supposedly locked up here for decades.
I lived just up the street from this lovely “manse.” I’ve always been intrigued by the house and the architectural history it represents. But equally intriguing is the decision made on the part of the parents (or the kids) to always leave a few stragically arranged plastic toys in the front yard. Tres Inman Park! I love it! JS
One additional note of trivial knowledge about this house – it was used as one of the fraternity/sorority houses for the new Revenge of the Nerds movie that was filmed (or at least partially filmed) here. (I drive by it each day on the way to work and noticed the banners (Alpha Omega?) on it one day – I too LOVE that house. It’s been my favorite ever since I moved to Atlanta.)
I’ve always liked that one. I’ve thought the same thing as Rashid. I find the basketball hoop and kid’s toys through your idea who lives inside a bit askew. Haha. It fits the neighborhood.
