Lenny’s: Saturday, January 7th

James has given you the lowdown on the whole Manchester Orchestra at the 585 drama. My husband and I were there also – the whole thing was completely entertaining, from the all ages crowd (haven’t been to one of those in a while) to the free keg beer (no liquor license) to the police bust, but when it came down to it, we had experienced more than enough of the hoopla, and decided to check out the bands playing at Lenny’s.

Unfortunately, we arrived about 11, so we missed most of The Preakness. I was pretty bummed. I think they went on about 10:30. The three songs we did see, though, were excellent. I will definitely be checking out a full set by them in the future and suggest that you do the same – they sounded great. Check out “What They’re Saying” and “Air Traffic” on their Myspace page – the others are good, too.

The next band was Moresight. Their enthusiasm, particularly the drummer’s, was infectious; He seemed to be having an absolute blast. He also pulled off the whole Phil Collins drums-and-singing thing on a few songs, which I totally dig. Standout songs were their opener (didn’t catch the name, but I was impressed all the same) and “Angeline.” You can hear more here and see a live clip of them performing on Myspace.

Unfortunately we didn’t get to stick around for Luigi due to being slaves to the babysitter – We had a curfew of 1 a.m. – but shit, I’m just glad to write about a band with a real live website, replete with video! Check it out.

All in all, an enjoyable evening, and while it seems the 585 is done for, the new Lenny’s is awesome. Great, intimate place to see a show. I’m also gonna have to get my girls together and check out one of their dance party nights.
