menage a trois

i went to the opening reception for bob amick’s new foray into the atlanta restaraint scene, trois, on friday night. trois is located in the 1180 peachtree building at the northwest corner of 14th and piedmont.

didn’t get a chance to try much of the food (got there late and the line was absurd) but the apple beignet desserts and beef carpacio appetizer i had were excellent.

i did look at the menu and it appears to be heavily french influenced, particularly in the steak department with steak au poivre, coq au vin and chateaubriand on the menu.

like all of amick’s restaurants, part of the experience is in the design though, and on this note i can report that trios is another grand accomplishment. unlike other amick joints like piebar, ONE midtown kitchen or two urban licks, trios is in new space so it doesn’t have the same industrial feel that those places do, but rather packs in the modernity

the bar on the first floor is wild. a lighted polka dot floor surrounds and ultra-modern bar with bartenders in black suits. off to the side are private cabanas with flat screen tv’s. the main dining room is wide-open with an open kitchen and these amazing blown glass panels sitting in posts throughout the room. it really looks quite amazing, especially with the gorgeous 4ft bonsai tree in the center. it will, however, be very noisy. the plan is for the lobby of the new atlanta symphony orchestra hall to open on the main dining room at trois.

the third floor contains private function space that appears serviceable for any kind of large party.

unfortunately i was a bad blogger and forgot my camera but their were photographers from all of the atlanta magazines there so i am sure you will see some pix of the place soon.

it’s a cool place. if you are a fan of the type of design that amick’s restaurants employ you’ll enjoy trois for that reason alone. i know i will be back to check out the food. reservations are available on open table for dining starting november 13.
