Cool Cemetery Tour
Just in time for Halloween, East Atlanta resident and local historian Larry Felton Johnson is conducting tours of East Atlanta’s historic Sylvester cemetery. Larry is armed with photographs and other artifacts from the archives of Martha Brown Methodist, and this month’s theme is Women of Sylvester Cemetery. Sylvester Cemetery is small, beautiful, and just a little creepy. It is tucked away on an East Atlanta side street, so that many residents might not even know it is there.
Saturday, October 14th at 10 AM. 10$. Proceeds support Sylvester Cemetery. Thanks to Larry for the heads up.
This is so cool, I’m just bummed that I already have plans. I love the snippet on the cemetery’s site about one of its, um, residents:
“…Jake Hall, who was the colorful former Dekalb County sheriff (who never learned to drive, and whose jail was in the basement of his house – if he needed to be driven he’d have one of the prisoners chauffeur him)…”
Faulkneresque to the max.
Thanks for posting this!
No problem, John! I think that he does these tours pretty regularly, so maybe you can catch another one.
Thanks for the info.
Does anyone know if Oakland is still doing evening tours?
