Local Takes on the Big Guys

I love the underdog. And while WSB’s Clark Howard is a succesful business person, he is a voice for the average consumer. As a consumer advocate, I love that he is always kind and polite, and gives businesses and individuals the chance to make things right. I also love that when things aren’t made right, he sends the dogs after the perpetrator. This time, Clark is taking on the biggest of the big guys: Bank of America.

Seems B of A has treated one Matthew Shinnick unfairly, and refuses to admit wrongdoing or redress the situation. Matthew, who is completely innocent of everything but naivete, is out $14,000 because of Bank of America’s mistake. Clark attempted to help Matthew work with Bank of America to fix the situation fairly. Bank of America still refused. (What are they, just plain stupid?) Clark, rightfully so, in my opinion, promptly asked his listeners to withdraw their funds from their Bank of America accounts. He set up an email address where people could report how much this horrendous case of crappy customer service is costing the bank.

You can read more about the story on Clark Howard’s website. You can see how much this has cost BofA so far on the loss meter. As of posting this, it was close to 30 million dollars. Not bad for the little guy taking on the big one.

Clark Howard is my hero for the day.
