The World’s Largest Brain

Well, it’s in the form of a huge hot air balloon.

To be honest, it sounds a little weird. But it’s for a great cause—a sort of brain awareness, if you will.

I’ve been fascinated by neuroscience since my mom’s brain surgery a few years ago, so I was a bit tickled when I received this announcement from the Society for Neuroscience newsletter list.

On Saturday, October 14, Atlanta-based neuroscientists will team up to raise a nine-story hot air balloon in the shape of a human brain. Spectators wil be able to see the world’s largest brain and learn about neuroscience, the brain, and brain disorders. The balloon is shaped and color-coded by functional regions of the human brain. Local scientists will lead hands-on activities for visitors of all ages, including touching a human brain and beading brain cells.

The balloon will inflate at the corner of Decatur St SE and Piedmont Rd SE , a half-block from the Georgia State University MARTA station. A free shuttle from the Georgia World Congress Center will be available from 3:30-7:00 p.m.
