I Scream

I met a woman yesterday whose uncle is an ice cream taste-tester. He got offered a job tasting ice cream in Hawaii, but he turned it down.

I told my coworkers if I didn’t make it in one day, they would know where to find me.

I am a lover of all things ice cream. I was excited to see Meredith Ford’s review of local ice cream spots back in June, and I grabbed a copy of the current Sky Magazine from my Delta flight yesterday, because it has a feature on some of the best ice cream shops in the country.

I almost cried when Jake’s closed the doors on their N. Highland shop. And I once received a marble slab — much like the ones used at Cold Stone Creamery and Marble Slab — as a gift.

I am in the planning stages of a pet project that will allow me an outlet for my insane attraction to the cold stuff. As part of my research, I am interested in public opinion on the best spots for ice cream in the Atlanta area and why. Do they have your favorite flavor? Are you keen on the ambience? Or the funky decor?

If you want to tell me in person, I’ll be at Inman Perk Coffee’s free scoop night tonight, where they’ll be serving up free scoops of Muriel & Sebastian’s ice cream from 6 to 11 p.m.

I’ll be the one who looks like I’ve died and gone to heaven.

I vote Hank’s, over by Grant Park. I think it’s a family business, and their homemade iced creams are really really good.

I also mourn the closing of Jakes at n. Highland. Jake’s got me through my first pregnancy!

I’ll have to check out Hank’s, Dave. I’m all about the homemade stuff!

And Designbot, I have been to the Jake’s in Decatur. It’s very cute. I just miss having one a stone’s throw away from me. But fortunately there are still some great options nearby.

I have to admit that I wonder how that TC’s Ice Cream Shop (on N. Highland, near Pura Vida) stays in business…I rarely see anyone in it.
