Ron Clark Academy
I just watched the Ron Clark Story on TNT. I don’t normally go in for these types of feel-good made for TV movies, but this one has an Atlanta connection. Ron Clark is setting up an Academy in South Atlanta based on his teaching philosophy.
(note: the website is currently being swamped with requests because of the movie, I suppose. Check it out though when you get the chance. The academy seems really interesting.)
While Clark’s site is busy, you can all check out this article about Ron Clark from the AJC, written by my pal Rodney Ho.

A very memorable teacher in High School was my Senior English Teacher. There were two Senior English Classes and both had to read, “McBeth” by Shakespeare. Our class was told we didn’t have to read the story. Instead, we were going to write a newspaper about that period.
So, to get ideas, we all read the story three times…We sold the newspaper to the other class for 5 cents a copy.
Our class tested much higher than the other class.
We had cartoons in the paper, An ad for a Harpischord by our class musician, articles about the Characters in the story – so interesting. We learned so much more about that time period and the people in it.
Since my name was “Duncan”, I was called, “The Living Duncan” by the class and had the privilege of reciting the lineage of King Duncan to the rest of the class.
The world needs a million Ron Clarks and less Ann Culters!
i was very moved by the movie myself, this is the type of interest that i have in my childs education and i want her to have the best chance at it. i would desperately appreciate any info that i could recieve on this new school coming in atlanta. please… i am even willing to relocat there.
I think the movie was great and think it was great for Ron not to give up in what he believes in what he felt was the right thing to do in helping the children. Because, the children in the world are our future. Once again a “BIG” thank you for a great story. In a matter of fact, I watched it two or three times.
My students have always thought I was crazy! I know now that’s just fine. I had the chance to hear Ron Clark speak at Midland ISD teacher inservice 8/15/06. He is even more amazing in person. I teach a course designed for juniors and seniors thinking about enter education (Ready Set TEACH). He truely is a pep rally for teachers.
watching the ron clark story was very inspiring. it touch alot of people hearts even mine. we need more ron clark in the world. it was amazing how u interacted with your students and didn’t stop believing in them. u was there for them when no one else cared.
hi my name is katie
and i also just watched “The Ron Clark Story” on TNT. it was very inspiring. i think that is really great that Ron Clark is starting a school to inspire others with his knowledge. there should be more people like Ron Clark in this world, but then again Ron Clark wouldn’t of been acknowledge for the greatness he as suceeded. thanks to Ron Clark the teachers of this world (like my mother) can take what they have learned from Ron Clark and use it in this crazy world . i can tell you this my mother is getting ready to use this knowledege that Ron Clark has givin her. my mother is a special ed teacher at Westoff elementry in O’Fallon missouri. let me tell you she has students like the ones in
“The Ron Clark Story” and its not easy to get to them and let them know that you really care about them. my mothers school starts on Wed august,23 and one of the kids she had last year flunked so lucky for her she has another year to try to let him know that she does care about him and the rest of the kids she has. hopefully this year she will actully teach him something other than that she just maybe crazy for caring about him. but i tink she has a pretty good chance of it, thanks to Ron Clark. i know i’m wanting to be a teacher when i grow up so i will take what i’ve learned from Ron Clark and use it in the future.
sincerely,
katie
To all out there, especially parents:
While I do appreciate the acting skills of Matthew Perry, he does not do the man himself–Ron Clark–enough justice. This gentleman has passion for education and for children that is unmatched. His academy that is scheduled to soon open will truly revolutionize and materially improve education in the U.S. .. and he is supported by an excellent staff, including Kim Bearden (an excellent teacher in her own right) and a very supportive and impressive Board… so please spread word to all, and consider supporting the school (as I have) through donations and efforts–and also spread the word among the big corporate world as the school could always use that support as well–which will be rewarded by better-prepared future employees of those corporations.
I JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE STORY AND I MUST SAY IT WAS VERY GOOD.. WHEN YOU GET TEARY EYED THAT SAY’S ALOT… I WOULD LOVE TO GET SOME INFORMATION ON DIFFERENT WAYS TO TEACH CHILDREN DIFFERENT SUBJECTS.. ALGEBRA, PART 1…. THIS CHILD WILL BE ENTERING PRESCHOOL. BUT THE WAY THINGS ARE G.PARENTS NEED TO KNOW JUST AS MUCH AS THE PARENTS…
very good story, would love to learn ways to teach kids a new way to learn math .. algebra… i knnow that their is more thatn one way to teach….but you never see this done…
I have heard about Ron Clark, read articles about him, and seen the movie. I am a retired teacher, and I understand the challenges he faced. Those challenges are not in just the inner city schools. They are evident in schools all over this state.
I applaud your commitment to your students. You, like so few others, are a TRUE teacher. Teaching is not just about academics. Teaching comes from the heart.
I’m actually watching The Ron Clark Story for the second time today. He is a phenominal teacher and person. I think Mathew Perry does a good job showing the concern that this man has for his students. It’s really heartwarming to see them come around and trust this man, and learn.
I never stay up late to watch movies, but before I turned off the TV my boys had left on, I caught part of the Ron Clark Story….soon I was hooked! It didn’t get over until the wee hours of the morning, but getting less than desirable sleep was so worth it. What a truly amazing man! I know that he will make a success out of his academy in Atlanta and further enrich our future by enriching the lives of the children he touches.
I WACH THE RON CLARK STORY OVERA 4 TIMES….AND MY PARENTS WAZ TRYANA FIND A WAY FOR ME TO GET IN THE SCHOOL. IF I WAS TO GET IN I WOULD HAVE TO MOVE WITH FAMILY DOWN THERE, AND THATS WHAT I WOULD DO.CAUSE I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO GO TO THE RON CLARK SCHOOL..THE MOVIE IS 1 OF MY FAVS.MOVIES AND I THINK ITS GREAT CAUSE IT WAS SOMETHING THAT ALOT OF TEACHERS SHOULD DO TO TRY HELP US SCORE HIGHER EACH YEAR.AND MR.CLARK TOLD TEACHERS TO BELIVE IN KIDS CAUSE WERE THERE FUTURE AND WE CAN DO ANY THING IF YA CAN BELIVE IN US.
LOVE CIERA
I watched the Ron Clark story the other night with my son and I want you to know he recorded it and I have cought him watching that story over and over again. Imagie whta education would be if districts taught more like MR Clark then putting all thereir attention on budgets and paychecks. I think that movie should be shown at all teacher conferences and teacher workshops. I think his thought of the student ahead of anything else is wonderful an the encouragement and support he gave those children is outstanding. Unfortunatley, in suffolk county in New York,it is all about where you live, the Jones’s, and the cars you drive and how much your paycheck is as a teacher. t hat’s what it is all about here. thank you Mr. clark for showing how important diversity and encouragement can bring a child a long way.
