Restaurant Week reminder

Sabrina mentioned it a while back, but I just wanted to remind everyone that we are smack dab in the middle of Downtown Restaurant Week. Book here! I recommend City Grill.

A Word of Advice

. . . to the teens in the Kroger parking lot on Moreland Avenue. If you are going to try to scam me out of a few bucks for your faux cause, at least have the intelligence not to do it with a laminated information sheet dated three years ago. Put a little effort into your props! Come on!

Moe’s Commercials

(via AJC)
You know how consumers like making commercials of their favorite products? Well, if you’ve ever been so possessed as to make a commercial for Moe’s Southwest Grill, then I recomment that you go here and post it. Only two users have posted so far – “Professor” with 4 and “KAZ” with 1. And I’m certain that you could do better than them. Really, I’m positive.

Atlanta Community Gardening

http://atlanta.metblogs.com/archives/images/2006/07/rtown-thumb.jpgMy family lives in East Atlanta, and my husband works in Inman Park. The other day we were taking a shortcut from home to his office to meet him for lunch, and my kids and I came across an oasis in Reynoldstown: The R-Town Garden.

Hank Johnson, candidate blogger

It not being an election I can vote in, I’m not paying too much attention to the Hank Johnson/Cynthi McKinney run-off campaign. However, I always find it interesting to see national interest in a local campaign. And here is Hank Johnson blogging at Winds of Change!

First, I’d like to thank Joe Katzman, Marc “Armed Liberal” Danziger, and the whole crew here at Winds of Change.NET for giving me the chance to address you. My name is Hank Johnson. I am a life-long Democrat running to unseat Rep. Cynthia McKinney in the August 8th runoff for the Democratic nomination in Georgia’s 4th Congressional District near Atlanta, Georgia. I am asking for your help, and your support.

The rest is pretty decent. And if you live in the 4th, you might want to check it out so that you can learn more about Mr. Johnson other than he is not McKinney,

P.S. Going to his website, I discovered that he is also blogging daily for The Hill’s blog. These sorts of things (when politicians post on blogs) make me wonder how much of their writing first gets vetted by staffers etc. I suspect that the higher your profile, the more your staff is going to insist on going over what you are writing (even writing it themselves – gasp!).

How Can This Be?

I read an interesting article today about the 1946 Moore’s Ford lynching. I guess I am a little shocked that to this day, the witnesses involved are keeping mum about what they know.

Vote Meeks!

Another week, another opportunity to let your opinion be heard.

I know next to nothing about this contest at MP3.com, but I do know that one of the contestants is Big Eddie Meeks, one third of Atlanta’s own Prophetix. If you like good and honest hip-hop, give Meeks a listen, then give him your vote. And really, can you beat lyrics like this?

“My spectacular / vernacular / travels through space and time like Scott Bakula.”

Answer: You just can’t.

georgia voters, have you NO compassion for me?

so i go on vacation and return to the united states to find that you all have voted down any chance that ralph reed will be in statewide office and are on the verge of turning out cynthia mckinney yet again? did you not think about those of us who love to write and post about the antics of the ethically challenged and looney fringe on both sides of the political spectrum?

do you really think casey cagle is going to take money from one native american casino to whip up a frenzy amongst moral zealots over another native american casino*? is hank johnson going to cite hugo chavez and fidel castro as deep political thinkers*? i think not.

wow, i can’t leave the country during an election, can i?

Our “little” baby bell is getting a new daddy!

At a special meeting today, the proposal was approved by more than 98% of the votes cast. Full story from TradingMarkets.com

“On March 5, San Antonio, Texas-based AT&T and Atlanta, Georgia-based BellSouth announced a deal, whereby AT&T, the largest U.S. telecoms company, agreed to acquire the country’s third largest phone company, BellSouth, for about $67 billion stock. [...] When AT&T completes acquisition of BellSouth, it would set the stage for an all-out war between phone giants and cable companies.”

The new company is going to be called AT&T, and will be based in San Antonio, Texas. What’s old is new again.

Cheesesteak Commemoration

One of the creators of the Philly Cheesesteak has died. I recommend heading over to Atlanta’s best cheesesteak place, Woody’s, to commemorate
