PDK Saturday

Maybe I’m just blissfully ignorant, but I hadn’t given much thought to non-Hartsfield Jackson airports in the Atlanta area until we went to a birthday party at the DeKalb Peachtree Airport this weekend.

To clarify, the birthday was for a three-year-old boy who is in the same daycare class as my daughter. His maternal grandfather flies a plane and we got to go down by the hangar and check it out. Pretty cool stuff.

We also hung out at the Downwind Restaurant and Lounge sipping Bloody Marys (the adults, not the kids) just watching the planes take off and land. I have blurry pictures soon to be up on Flickr if you’re interested.

Coolest fact: PDK encourages pilots to keep the noise level down.

I’d reccommend a weekend lunch at the Downwind if you live in the area and have younger kids. The allure of planes flying in and out and french fries is a winning combination.

You forgot to mention that they have a playground! My toddler son LOVES to go to PDK.

    Good call.

We didn’t use the playground because it was so hot, but that’s true.

And here’s another cool fact… Pilots rarely keep the noise down.
