Area Blood Drives This Weekend

With every holiday weekend comes an increased need for blood and platelets due to accidents. Unfortunately, it’s summertime and donations typically drop off this time of year. Several area malls are holding blood drives this weekend, including Lenox Square, The Mall of Georgia, North Lake, Town Center, Gwinnett Place and Arbor Place. And if you can’t make it to one of those mall drives, you can donate at an area blood donor center. You can read more information on the need and how to donate.

I’m still upset that the need is so great but I cannot donate because I spent five years in Germany as a child. I’m pretty sure that I don’t have mad cow disease.

I’m on their bad list for having had cancer which I can somewhat understand. Why someone can’t give blood because they’re either a man who slept with another man or a woman who slept with a man who slept with another man though baffles me. They test your donation for AIDS as well as a few other yuckies.

Think about how far we go toward wiping out our blood shortage if more healthy caring people were allowed to help out.
