I have often wondered why, when our city has such beautiful neighborhoods, that the Atlanta Marathon chooses the route it does. Seriously, instead of running past the Vortex or through Candler Park, you get the Platinum 21 Club on Piedmont and long stretch of dingy, run-down office building up Peachtree Industrial. Okay, the run down Peachtree through town has got to be great, but the rest, ugh. This is one of the major reasons I have not considered the ATL marathon for my first one.

Well, it looks like someone else agreed with me*. The Inaugural ING Georgia Marathon is going to be run in March of next year and will go through Midtown, Little 5, VaHi, Decatur and Sweet Auburn.

Great idea, good job to everyone involved in running it, and I may just consider this for my SECOND marathon. Going to try for Vegas in December.
